The Mizzou baseball team opened up its fall schedule with the annual Black and Gold game at Taylor Stadium on Friday night. The Black squad put nine runs on the board between the sixth and eighth inning on its way to an 10-2 win in the intersquad game.
Redshirt freshman Scott Dunwoody led the way for the black team, recording three hits including a pair of doubles on the night.
Several Tiger pitchers took to the mound on Friday night as 14 hurlers saw action including juniors Max Scherzer and Nathan Culp, who each started the game for their respective teams. Scherzer struck out two batters and allowed just one hit in two shutout innings. Culp also pitched two innings, striking out one and allowing no runs on one hit.
Mizzou will continue its fall season with the Fall World Series, which will start on Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 6 p.m. at Taylor Stadium. Game two of the best-of-five series will take place at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 20. All games of the Fall World Series are open to the public and admission is free.
