Tigers Hit The Road For Games Against Colorado And Texas Tech

COLUMBIA, Mo. -- The Tigers travel to Boulder, Colo. and Lubbock, Texas for games against Colorado and Texas Tech this weekend. Missouri kicks off against the Buffaloes at 4:00 p.m. MT (3:00 p.m. CT) on Friday, Oct. 14 before the contest against the Red Raiders on Sunday, Oct. 16. Originally slated for 1:00 p.m., gametime for the Texas Tech match has changed to 12:00 p.m.

With an overall mark of 7-4-3 and 2-2-2 in Big 12 play, the Tigers hope to pick up two important wins on the roadtrip to move up in the conference standings as the postseason approaches.

MIZZOU EARNS WIN NUMBER 100 With a 3-0 win over Oklahoma State on Sunday, Oct. 9, the Tigers earned the 100th win in the program's 10-year history. Since women's soccer became a Division I program in 1996, Missouri has an overall record of 100-94-9 (.515 winning percentage) under the tutledge of head coach Bryan Blitz.

LAST TIME OUT The Tigers returned home last weekend with games against Big 12 leader Oklahoma and the conference's top scoring team, Oklahoma State. On Friday, Oct. 7 against the Sooners, senior Erica Pusch tied the game at 1-1 in the 86th minute to send the game into overtime.. The Tigers outshot Oklahoma 6-2 in the overtime sessions but could not score and settled for a 1-1 tie. Sophomore goalie Laura Buehrig recorded six saves in goal for Missouri.

Sunday's match against Oklahoma State was a battle of the two most physical teams in the conference, which was evident throughout as the Cowgirls were awarded five yellow cards and one red card and both teams combined for 40 fouls on the afternoon. The Tigers overcame the physicality and posted an impressive 3-0 victory en route to the program's 100th win. Freshman Mo Redmond started scoring in the sixth minute after converting a penalty kick while junior Aria Hudetz and senior Amber Swinehart also scored in the game. Buehrig was solid in net for the Tigers with three saves.

ROCKIN' ROOKIE Tiger freshman defender Kat Tarr was named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week on Oct. 11 after helping Missouri to a 1-0-1 record over the weekend. Tarr anchored a Tiger defense that allowed one goal to conference leader Oklahoma and shutout the high-scoring Oklahoma State Cowgirls. Tarr is the third Tiger honored by the league this season, as sophomore goalie Laura Buehrig earned Defensive Player of the Week accolades on Sept. 6 and freshman midfielder Mo Redmond took home Newcomer of the Week honors on Sept. 13.

HOME COOKIN' After a 1-0-1 weekend at home last weekend, the Tigers are now 6-2-1 in the comfy confines of Walton Stadium and 1-2-1 on the road. At home, Missouri averages 2.17 goals per game against 1.10 on the road and holds opponents to 0.76 goals per game at Walton Stadium.

LEADING THE WAY Of the more than 720 Division I women's soccer student- athletes, senior forward Jennifer Nobis currently ranks ninth in the nation in assists per game (0.69).

Three Tigers also find themselves ranked in the top five in Big 12 Conference statistics, as of Oct. 10. Nobis ranks second in total assists (nine) and assists per game (.690) and fourth in total shots (63) and shots per game (4.85). Senior Amber Swinehart is tied for first in game-winning goals (four) and ranks fifth in total goals goals per game (0.50) and tied for fifth in total goals (seven) and sophomore goalie Laura Buehrig leads the league in save percentage (.833), is third in saves (65) and saves per game (4.64), fourth in goals against average (0.92) and tied for fifth in shutouts (six).

RECORD WATCH As of Oct. 4, four Tigers find themselves ranked in the top 10 in Missouri's career recordbook. Senior Jennifer Nobis ranks third in game-winning goals (nine), shots (232), shots on goal (109) and games played (82), tied for third in assists (23), fourth in points (79) and fifth in goals (28). Senior Amber Swinehart is sixth in game-winning goals (five) and shots (126) and ninth in shots on goal (53). Senior Erica Pusch is ninth in shot on goal percentage (.517) and tied for eighth in games started (70), junior Aria Hudetz ranks 10th in shot on goal percentage (.515) and sophomore goalkeeper Laura Buehrig finds herself ranked second in goals against average (1.31), third in wins (14), and minutes in goal (2861:15), shutouts (six) and games played in goal (32), fourth in games started in goal (32) and ranks fifth in saves (136) and winning percentage (.519).

ABOUT COLORADO Although Colorado enters the game against Missouri with a 7-5-2 record and 3-2 in Big 12 play, the Buffaloes are 6-2 in their last eight games. With impressive wins over Texas, Iowa State, Vanderbilt and Colorado College, Colorado is not to be taken lightly. The Buffs also posted wins over Detroit, Pittsburgh and Oklahoma State, fell to national powers North Carolina, USC, UCLA, Nebraska and Oklahoma and earned ties with Denver and Wyoming.

The Buffs are led by national player of the year candidate and 2003 Big 12 Player of the Year, senior midfielder Fran Munnelly, who has eight goals and 19 points on the season. In goal for Colorado is reigning Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week, senior Jessica Keller. Keller allows 1.05 goals per game and has a .750 save percentage in 2005.

MU vs. THE BUFFALOES Missouri holds a 7-5-1 advantage over the Buffs. The two teams met twice last season, as the Tigers upset No. 17 Colorado 1-0 during the regular season before losing a 2-1 overtime match in the Big 12 Tournament.

ABOUT TEXAS TECH The Red Raiders come into the game against the Tigers on a 10 game losing streak, dating back to their loss to Northwestern on Sept. 2. For the season, Texas Tech is 1-12 and 0-4 in league play. The squad's only win of the season came against Sam Houston State on Aug. 30 and the Red Raiders have also allen to TCU, SMU, Minnesota.

Senior forward Kimmie Davis leads the Red Raiders with six goals and one assist for 13 points on the year. Seniors Megan Knauss and Beth Lippert have shared time in net for Texas Tech this season, staring seven and four games, respectively.

MU vs. THE RED RAIDERS The Tigers hold a slim 6-5 record of the Red Raiders, including last year's 4-1 win at Walton Stadium.

STILL AHEAD The Tigers return home next weekend with games against Texas on Friday, Oct. 21 at 7:00 p.m. and close out the home schedule on Sunday, Oct. 23 at 1:00 p.m. against non-conference foe Colorado College. Missouri then travels to Lawrence, Kan. on Friday, Oct. 29 to end the regular season with a matchup against Kansas at 7:00 p.m.
