COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Big 12 Conference named Missouri freshman defender Kat Tarr (Vancouver, Wash. / Columbia River) as the Newcomer of the Week on Tuesday, the first such award of Tarr's career. Tarr played all 200 minutes of the Tigers' games against Oklahoma and Oklahoma State and helped anchor a defense that allowed just one goal over the weekend.
In a matchup with Big 12 leader Oklahoma on Friday, Oct. 7, Tarr and the Tigers recorded a 1-1 double-overtime tie as Tarr played all 110 minutes of play against the Sooners. On Sunday, Oct. 9, Tarr anchored a defense that shutout Oklahoma State, the conference's top scoring squad, and led Missouri to a 3-0 win.
Tarr has seen action in all but one game this season with 12 starts for the Tigers.
Tarr is the second Tiger to earn Newcomer of the Week honors and the third to be recognized by the Big 12 in 2005. Freshman midfielder Mo Redmond received Newcomer of the Week accolades on Sept. 13 and sophomore goalkeeper Laura Buehrig took home Defensive Player of the Week honors on Sept. 6.
The Tigers are back in action on Friday, Oct. 14 with a 4:00 p.m. CT match with Colorado in Boulder, Colo. Missouri then heads to Lubbock, Texas for a game against Texas Tech on Sunday, Oct. 16 at 1:00 p.m.
