No. 7 Mizzou Volleyball Face-Off With No. 1 Nebraska To Be Televised, First Ever From Hearnes Center

Sept. 26, 2005

COLUMBIA, Mo. -

The University of Missouri athletic department in conjunction with Mizzou Sports Properties announced Monday that the Tigers' home women's volleyball match on October 5 with the Nebraska Cornhuskers will be aired on the Mizzou Sports Network. Kansas City cable-network MetroSports will air the 6:30 p.m., match live from the Hearnes Center with Fox Sports Midwest airing tape-delay coverage at later date. The match will be one of four scheduled television appearances for Tiger Women's Volleyball this season.

The Nebraska match will be Mizzou's first-televised match of the 2005 season and the first all-time to be aired from the Hearnes Center. In addition to MetroSports' live coverage, Fox Sports Midwest will air a tape-delay broadcast on Sunday, October 9, between 2 and 4 p.m.

The "Voice of the Tigers", Mike Kelly, will provide play-by-play.

Fans can get into the game for free with two canned-food items as part of "Can the Huskers" night. In addition, the first 2,000 fans in the gate will receive a free team-photo card. Students can get into the match for $1, or for free as part of their All-Sports Pass. Also, fans who hold a KMIZ-ZOU Spirit Pass will enter for free as well.

In addition to Mizzou's home match with Nebraska being televised, CSTV will air the two-team's match up in Lincoln live on November 13. Also, Mizzou's match against Texas in Austin on October 12  will be aired on ESPNU and the Tigers' meeting with Kansas State in Manhattan, Kan., will be aired on Fox Sports Net on October 26.

The Missouri women's volleyball team is one of the most exciting in collegiate sport this season, as the Tigers have started the season 10-0, matching a team-record start, adding a 4-0 beginning to the Big 12 season. Mizzou has went 4-0 against teams ranked in the top 20 and 2-0 against teams in top 10, which includes two three-game sweeps over then-No. 9 Wisconsin and then-No. 9 Tennessee.

The team has led the nation the past three weeks in total kills per game and assists per game, and is currently one of eight squads in the NCAA to not have lost a match.

Of 31 games played this season, Mizzou has only dropped one game, a 31-29 decision in game one at then-No. 15 Texas A&M. That figure is second-best of 317 Division I schools to No. 2 Washington who has not lost a game all year.

The support from the Missouri students and the Columbia, Mo., community-at-large has been brought Mizzou volleyball to the forefront as 2,486 fans witnessed Mizzou's sweep over No. 17 Kansas State, the second-largest crowd in team history.
