Mo Redmond Named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week

Sept. 13, 2005

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Big 12 Conference named Missouri freshman midfielder Mo Redmond (Brownsburg, Ind. / Brebeuf Jesuit Prep) as the Newcomer of the Week on Tuesday, the first such award of her career. Redmond posted her first career points in Mizzou's two wins against non-conference foes Arkansas State and Iowa this past weekend.

In the Tigers' dominating 7-0 win against Arkansas State on Sept. 8, Redmond scored her first career collegiate goal in the 66th minute off a feed from fellow freshman Carolina Pohl. Less than two minutes later, Redmond notched her first career assist when sophomore Annie Baxter collected her pass and blasted the ball past the Lady Indian's keeper. Against the Hawkeyes on Sept. 11, Redmond gathered a loose ball in the box and scored the Tigers' second goal of the game in the 5-0 Mizzou win. Redmond's five points on the weekend were the first of her career.

Redmond, the only freshman to start all of Missouri's games this season, was a member of the Indiana ODP state team from 1997-2003 as her team finished third in the 2002 National Tournament. Her Ohio Elite club squad also finished second in the state in 2003.

The award marks the second-straight week a Missouri soccer student-athlete has received Big 12 honors after sophomore goalkeeper Laura Buehrig's Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week accolades.

Redmond and the rest of the Tigers will look to extend their four-game winning streak against North Dakota State Tuesday, Sept. 13 at 7:00 at Walton Stadium.
