Sean Coffey Named to 2005 Biletnikoff Award Watch List

Aug. 21, 2005

Columbia, Mo. - University of Missouri senior wide receiver Sean Coffey (East Cleveland, Ohio) has been named to the 2005 Biletnikoff Award Watch List, as announced recently by the Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation. The award is given annually to the top receiver in college football.

Coffey earned honorable mention All-Big 12 honors in 2004 after leading the Tigers with 39 catches for 648 yards and a single-season school-record 10 touchdowns. With 78 career receptions entering the 2005 season, Coffey needs just nine more to crack the school's career top-10 receptions list. With 22 catches this season, he would become only the eighth Tiger receiver in history to have 100 catches. With 1,148 career receiving yards entering the season, Coffey needs only 142 more to break into the MU top-10 yardage list, and the school career record of 18 receiving touchdowns (Justin Gage) is also within reach in 2005.

The Biletnikoff Award is named after Fred Biletnikoff, the Oakland Raiders' career receiving leader and member of the College and Pro Football Halls of Fame. He was the Most Valuable Player in Super Bowl XI. A former All-American at Florida State, Biletnikoff never experienced a losing season in his 14 seasons with the Raiders. The award winner is chosen by the Biletnikoff Award Selection Committee, a high-profile and geographically diverse group of journalists, radio and television commentators and announcers, as well as former receivers.
