The Missouri Tigers continued their preparations for the 2005 season opener, with two more practices today in Columbia. The first practice, in full pads, was held indoors as the weather continued to offer steady rain this morning, continuing from yesterday's downpour that forced Fan Day inside.
The afternoon workout was held in short and shells, and took place at Faurot Field.
Here were just a few highlights that came out 11-on-11 scrimmaging during the morning practice today...
- CB Domonique Johnson had a nice pass break up on a deep ball from QB Brad Smith to WR Sean Coffey that appeared to be all but in Coffey's hands for an apparent TD...
- Smith hit WR Jason Ray for around 20 yards on a nice find during a scramble...
- Smith and Coffey later connected on a 10-yard TD in red zone work...
- QB Brandon Coleman hit WR Tommy Saunders for a 10-yard TD in red zone work...
- LB Dedrick Harrington had a big hit in the backfield to cause a fumble...
- LB David Richard had a big QB sack in red zone situational scrimmaging...
- TB Connell Davis had a 10-yard run for a TD...
- QB Chase Patton had a 5-yard TD on a keeper...
- S David Overstreet broke up a pass over the middle...
News & Notes
- Sunday's third annual Fan Day/Photo Day/Media Day event seemed to be a great success, according to the feedback received from fans in attendance. Despite rain forcing the event indoors, over 500 faithful showed up for the day and got tons of autographs and pictures with their favorite Tiger coaches and players. Naturally, the longest line went for Brad Smith signatures, and Brad signed for right at 400 people before the day was over. The numbers were down considerably from previous years, but that was expected due to the bad weather...
- WR Tommy Saunders was awarded a scholarship, as announced by Head Coach Gary Pinkel. Also earning scholarships for their hardwork and dedication to the program were DT Scott Wheatley and DL Zach Kauflin. All three are very deserving of this recognition...
- Monday afternoon saw demoliton work begin on the old scoreboards that are being replaced atop the south stands at Memorial Stadium. The eastern-most scoreboard was completely dismantled by the end of the day, leaving only the steel frame standing. Work will continue on the other boards, with the new boards following...
