June 11, 2005

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The NCAA Track & Field Championships wrapped up Saturday in Sacramento, Calif. Senior Conrad Woolsey earned his fourth Division I All-America honor on Friday with a 10th-place performance in the men's shot put. The official collegiate season may be over, but the summer of track and field has just begun as the U.S. Championships are on the horizon.

Woolsey (Excelsior Springs, Mo.) threw his best of the day of 60-3¾ (18.38m) on his third attempt. As a Tiger, Woolsey competed in four NCAA Championships (indoor and outdoor) and earned All-America honors at each meet.

In total, Woolsey along with decathlete Hans Uldal and women's 800-meter runner Ashley Patten are three Tigers that earned All-America honors for the 2005 outdoor season.

Senior Jennifer Bennett (Ashland, Mo.) qualified for the finals of the women's pole vault on Thursday with a season-best vault of 13-1½ (4.00m). Saturday, in the final, Bennett entered at the opening height of 12-9½ (3.90m), but did not clear in three attempts.

Late on Thursday night, junior Valerie Lauver placed 19th in the women's 10,000-meter run, clocking 34:45.34.

In 12 days, the several current and former Tigers will start competition in the USA Track & Field National Championships and the USA Track & Field National Junior Championships in Carson, Calif. Early next week, look for a list of all Tigers making a trip to California on mutigers.com.
