End of the Year Awards Banquet
On Tuesday of this week the Missouri Track and Field team held their annual end of the year Awards Banquet in Mizzou Arena's Jeffery Clinton Club. The following are the award winners:
- The Bill Rawson Award given to the team's outstanding freshmen - winners: Trisa Nickoley, Elizabeth Robe, and Nate Englin.
- The Marvin L. Patterson Award which recognizes non-scholarship student-athletes that exhibit a dedication to and achievement of academic and athletic excellence - winners: David Mertens, Chris Horn, Ben Stafford, Lydia Mariam, and Nicole Johnson.
- The Joe Marks Award recognizes outstanding cross country runners whose life demonstrates a commitment to excellence - winners: Serena Ramsey, Tim Ross, and Matt Noonan
- The Natasha Kaiser-Brown Award is given to the team's most outstanding female performers - winners, Ashley Patten, Trisa Nickoley, Amanda Bales, Valerie Lauver, and Whittney Stuart
- The Derrick Peterson Award is given to the team's most outstanding male performers - winners: Hans Uldal, Conrad Woolsey, Ryan Hampton, Neville Miller, Jimmie Jones, Marcus Mayes, and Bjorn Sommerfeldt.
- The Missouri Coaches' Award is given to student-athletes that exhibit courage - winners: Jesse Sims, Lyndsey Tait, Jill Petersen, Whittney Stuart, and Brandon Goebbert.
- The Tom Botts Award goes to seniors on the team who best exemplify the ethics, integrity, citizenship, and leadership demonstated by former, long-time head coach Tom Botts - winners: Jennifer Bennett, Jenny Bybee, Margaret Ibe Umah, Serena Ramsey, Ryan Hampton, Jason Jones, Benjamin Vrbicek, and Conrad Woolsey.
- The co-captains for the 2005-06 season were also announced, they are: Amanda Bales, Laura Brandt, Valerie Lauver, Ashley Patten, Liz Young¸ Adam Burla, Chris Horn, Neville Miller, Rem Moll, and Matt Noonan.
Swan Song For The Regular Season This Weekend
With one weekend remaining before the Big 12 Championships and the beginning of the championship season, the Tiger Track and Field team will travel a handful of athletes to Bloomington, Ind., for tomorrow's Billy Hayes Classic. This meet, along with the Big 12 meet will given the Tigers their final opportunity to qualify for the NCAA Mideast Regional, which is May 27-28 in Bloomington.
Peterson to Run in Jamaica, mon
Tiger post-collegian Derrick Peterson will run in the Jamaica International Invitational tomorrow in Kingston, Jamaica. Peterson placed fourth last week at the Drake Relays at 800 meters and will run the same distance tomorrow.
Cantwell to Cali
Continuing the travel bit, post-collegian shot putter Christian Cantwell will throw Saturday in the Coca-Cola Modesto Relays in Modesto, Calif. Cantwell is coming off a second-place showing at last weekend's Drake Relays.
