Missouri sophomores Kathy Masterson (softball) and Michael Unger (men's golf) were named this week's Lathrop & Gage student-athletes of the week. Both students hold above a 3.0 grade-point average, are successful members on their respective teams and are active in the community through various outreach programs.
Masterson, a St. Louis native, also holds a perfect 4.0 grade-point average in engineering. She aided the Tigers in a split with fourth ranked Texas. Masterson tagged two girls out at the plate, one enabling the Tigers to win the first game, and the other preserving the one run deficit homers on the season. Off the diamond Masterson and her teammates played in a wheelchair softball game in St. Louis, and she participates in youth softball clinics.
A native of Edmond, Okla., Unger holds a 4.0 grade-point average in engineering. Unger has competed in two tournaments for the Tigers, and an 18 hole stroke average of 79.40. Besides spending time on the links, Unger devotes time to the Student Athletes Advisory Council (SAAC) as a representative. He also helps out at the Central Missouri Food Bank, and the SAAC canned food drive.
The men's golf team next competes in Trinity, Texas, for the Big 12 title April 29 through May 1. The women's softball team faces Indiana at home April 20th, before returning to Big 12 play with a trip to Waco, Texas to face the Baylor Bears.
