Columbia, Mo.--Proving Mizzou can get things done in the classroom, as well as on the field, soccer player Karen Bauer and cross country runner Serena Ramsey have both received Fall NCAA Post Graduate Scholarships.
A senior midfielder, Bauer earned her second Academic All-America and All-District honors bestowed by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Leading the team with a 3.94 cumulative grade point average, Bauer started 17-of-18 games played this season and tied to lead the team dishing out six assists, including five from cornerkicks to set the Missouri career cornerkick assist record with 12. Scoring two penalty kick goals, she also set the Mizzou career PK record with a perfect 6-for-6 tally. She was honored as the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week following her performance against Alabama A&M after scoring a goal and an assist to help the Tigers best the Bulldogs 5-2.
Making history last season, Bauer became Mizzou's first Academic All-District and All-America Second Team soccer player. She adds her newest All-America and all-district awards to a slew of honors including three first team academic All-Big 12 selections and four Total Person Program Academic Achievement Awards earning the soccer team's highest grade point average during four consecutive seasons.
Serena Ramsey graduates as a three-time NCAA Cross Country Championship qualifier. Leading Mizzou to a top-20 national finish for the last three seasons, Ramsey also earned academic all-region and All-Big 12 honors following the 2004 cross country season. The Waukesha, Wisc., native placed fifth at the 2004 regional championship and seventh at the conference meet. On the track this season, Ramsey set a new Mizzou standard in the 5000-meter with a third-place finish at the 2005 Big 12 Indoor Championships. In addition, the senior earned a second honor placing third in the 3000-meter run. Qualifying for the 2004 NCAA Outdoor Championship, Ramsey finished 18th in the 10000-meter run.
