Ben Askren's Weekly Journal

January 27, 2005

Sorry I haven't written in such a long time, I've been busy and just keep forgetting. I will try to keep my journal more up to date from now on. On January 2 at the Missouri Duals, we shut out all three of our opponents, and later that week we beat CMSU as well. A few days later we took off to the NYAC to wrestle Lehigh. It was a very interesting experience. I had a lot of fun, but didn't really like NYC too much. I guess I'm not much of a big city person. There are just too many humans in one place. The dual was awesome! They packed the small gym and the crowd was very noisy, a great atmosphere for a dual meet. The dual didn't go all our way, but we held our own with a top 5 Lehigh team. Austin DeVoe's injury really hurt us, and we couldn't control that so there wasn't much to be upset about.

The next day we took off for Virginia to wrestle in the Virginia Duals. Our first day there didn't go to well as we lost to UTC 19-16. However, all of the guys picked it up on the second day and we dominated in four matches straight to take third. We ended the dual tournament on a really positive note. After we came back to good ol' Columbia, it was time to start school. This was sort of disappointing because the break was so enjoyable. We also started a week and a half of hard training before we wrestle Nebraska. School has been good mainly because I only go on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

With our Conference duals coming up, our team can see the light at the end of the tunnel. The Nebraska dual is only two days away and everyone is feeling very confident going into the dual. The room grand opening is this weekend, so I invite everyone to come out and see our state of the art facility at 3:00pm. Don't forget to stay for the dual. It should be a great one.
