Tuscaloosa, Ala. - The Missouri softball team suffered its first loss of the season, 3-2, to Maryland in the Crimson Classic in the Alabama Softball Complex of Tuscaloosa, Ala. Now 7-1 on the season, the Tigers will play in the consolation game tomorrow, at 11 a.m. (CT), against Penn State. Freshman pitcher Jen Bruck (St. Peters, Mo.) was saddled with the loss and falls to 3-1 on the season.

Redshirt freshman Micaela Minner (Sanger, Texas) smashed her fifth homer of the season over the right field fence in the fourth inning for the Tiger's second and final run of the game. With the long ball, Minner has etched her name into the Missouri season homerun history books and stands tied at 10th with three MU players, Tiffany Heick (two times), Heather Kunkel and Daisy Mettlach.

Senior shortstop Heather Kunkel scored MU's first run of the game. Launching a one-out triple to right center, Kunkel advanced home when sophomore catcher Kathy Masterson (St. Louis, Mo.) grounded out to the pitcher.

The Terapins pulled ahead in the sixth inning scoring two runs off of three hits.

"I'm disappointed that were weren't able to carry the momentum from our first game over into our second," Head Coach Ty Singleton said. "The team really came together and played well against one of the best team's in the nation, but it's obvious we had an emotional let down as we immediately played Maryland with an empty tank."
