Brown and Bellis Earn Student-Athlete Honors

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Missouri freshmen Marshall Brown (basketball) and Charlotte Bellis (tennis) were named this week's Lathrop & Gage student-athlete's of the week. Both student-athlete's exhibit strong skills on the court and in the classroom and donate their time to the surrounding community.

Brown, a native of Austin, Texas, holds a 3.24 grade-point average after two semesters of work, and remains undecided on his major. A forward on the men's basketball team, Brown has contributed 125 points in 24 games and made six starts throughout the season. When shooting for three, Brown is 17-39 and holds MU's highest three-point percentage at 44 percent. Outside of the classroom and away from the Mizzou Arena, Brown has helped with the annual men's basketball youth clinic, Columbia Boys and Girls Club and Coaches vs. Cancer.

New Zealand native Bellis is a broadcast journalism major with a 3.36 grade-point average. Strong in both singles and doubles, Bellis has racked up several wins this season, most recently besting Creighton's Elizabeth Hurley without dropping a single set on Feb. 11. Bellis is the Student Athlete Advisory Committe (SAAC) representative for the women's tennis team and helped with the annual SAAC canned food drive this past fall.

The women's tennis team will return to competition at home in the Green Tennis Center Friday, Feb. 18, against Murray State at 6 p.m. The men's basketball team will return to action this Wednesday, Feb. 16 against Big 12 opponent Baylor at 7 p.m. (CT).
