Tigers Receive Academic Recognition

Columbia, Mo.--The University of Missouri women's soccer team was recognized for its outstanding performance in the classroom by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).

During the 2003-04 school year, the 21 person squad posted a 3.05 team grade point average which earned them the NSCAA/adidas Team Academic Award. In order to be eligible for the award a team must earn a 3.0 cumulative team GPA for the academic year.

Several players contributed to the Tigers' accolades. Senior defender Karen Bauer earned a 4.0 last spring and graduated with a 3.94 GPA in December. Bauer received a bachelor's degree in biological sciences and will be starting medical school next fall.

Sophomore goalkeeper Kira Reyes earned a 3.95 during the spring 2004 term and currently maintains a 3.70 cumulative GPA. Reyes is pursuing a degree in business administration with an emphasis in finance and banking.

Sophomore midfielder Meggie Malm is also excelling in the classroom. While studying industrial engineering, Malm earned a 3.94 spring GPA and currently maintains a 3.96 cumulative.

Continuing their success, the Tiger soccer team recorded an impressive 3.11 team cumulative grade point average during the 2004 fall semester.
