Kicking off the 2005 home season, Missouri hosts the inaugural Pink Out meet against Centenary on Fri., Jan. 21 in the Hearnes Center. As an added highlight to a night of stellar gymnastics, the Tigers have paired with University of Missouri Heath Care and Ellis Fischel Cancer Hospital to help promote breast cancer awareness and research efforts.
"We're excited to be part of such a great charity," Head Coach Rob Drass said. "We're happy to be teamed up with such a wonderful organization working toward such a noble cause. This year marks the first of what we hope will be an annual event where each year we raise a $5,000 donation that can be put toward breast cancer awareness and research efforts."
On Jan. 21, Mizzou will put away its black and gold and don pink leotards in honor of the on-going fight to stamp out this terrible disease. In addition, Mizzou has promised $1 of each meet ticket sold to aide in breast cancer research efforts at Ellis Fischel.
To show support for this important cause, Mizzou and Centenary fans are encouraged to make a trip to the Hearnes Center on Jan. 21 wearing pink. Helping pave the way, the Mizzou gymnastics team will be giving complimentary Pink Out t-shirts to the first 500 spectators to arrive. In addition, the Tiger Team Store is offering 25 percent off on all pink Mizzou merchandise sold in the Hearnes Center.
"For one night, our athletes are going to put away the black and gold and wear pink," Drass said. "We want to show our support for all the women who have fought this battle and continue to face it everyday."
Come support breast cancer awareness and help the Tigers and University of Missouri Health Care drape the arena in pink!
