Columbia, Mo.--The Mizzou Tigers defeated Loyola-Chicago 2-1 today picking up their third victory of the season. Missouri is 3-4-1 heading into Big 12 Conference play next weekend.
Missouri came out strong scoring a pair of goals in the first half. Sophomore Aria Hudetz put the Tigers on the board just three minutes into play scoring her first goal of the season. Setting up the play in the half field, defender Lacy Moore took the ball through the mid slating a pass up top. Forward Shea Swoboda set up the scoring play dribbling the ball through the middle of the Loyola penalty area before slicing a quick pass to Hudetz for the scoring shot.
Mimicking the scenario during its second scoring drive, Lauren Vineyard served as the Tiger catalyst in the midfield. Sending a pass up to forward Kristen Heil in the top right corner of the field, Heil sent the ball into the center of the Rambler penalty area where Nobis chipped a pass to Moore for the game-winning shot.
Dominating Loyola offensively, Missouri outshot the Ramblers 26-to-6 including a nine-to-five shot on goal differential. The Tiger defensive staff of Moore, Ashley Gibbs, Lauren Grice and Erica Pusch kept the Ramblers to just two shots in the first period and four in the second.
Despite a harrowing defensive display, Loyola scored a single goal early in the second half. Earning a free kick 25-yards from the Mizzou goal box, Rambler Heather Sorgatz launched a shot. The ball struck the crossbar, slammed into the ground and bounced over the Tiger goal line.
Heading into Big 12 Conference action next weekend, the Tigers travel to Oklahoma. Mizzou faces the Sooners on Fri., Sept. 24 at 7:30 p.m., and battles Oklahoma State on Sun., Sept. 26 at 1:00 p.m.
