Cantwell Keeps Climbing The Mountain With Personal Best In Oregon

GRESHAM, Ore. - Christian Cantwell, Missouri post-collegian and world-leading shot putter, once again topped his personal best, throwing today at the 14th Annual Oregon Track Classic for a meet record of 73 feet, 11? inches (22.54m). Cantwell won his 12th consecutive shot put final and is now the fourth best American ever in the event.
"My throw today was nothing special," Cantwell said. "It just went a little farther than the last one."
His previous best toss of 73 feet, 4 inches (22.32m) was made three weeks ago at the Home Depot Invitational.
"Today's performance was just one more in a series of steps I'm taking to peak and compete well at the right time. I feel great and it only gets better from here."
Cantwell's best toss of the day is now only two-feet off the world record in the event as he is now the eighth best putter all-time in the world.
Cantwell beat Americans Adam Nelson and John Godina by 34 inches. Godina, two-time Olympic medallist, finished third to Nelson by a quarter-inch (71-1?).
