Revised Schedule, Live Results, and Missouri Events
AUSTIN, Texas - The University of Missouri track and field team endured a long day filled with torrential rain downpours at the first day of the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Sophomore Jessica Stockard ends day one with 3,266 points and in sixth place overall.
Before the rain deluged the heptathlon competition, Stockard ran for a personal-best time of 14.14 in the 100-meter dash for 923 points setting her into 17th place after the first event.
Then the rains came. Around 4:30 p.m., meet officials decided to begin the high jump, the second event of the heptathlon while a moderate rain fell. Once lightning came into the area, competition was once again suspended. At 8:00 p.m., the NCAA Track & Field Committee decided to complete competition of the first day of the women's heptathlon and the preliminary rounds of the women's javelin. The remaining events were either cancelled or suspended. Luckily, most of day one consisted of preliminary rounds which now have consolidated into finals. The track events that had three rounds now have dissolved down to two. Most of Missouri's events are not affected by the changes. Over two-and-a-half inches of rain fell over a six hour period which flooded the infield for a time and left a quarter-inch of standing water on the track.
Stockard continued at 9:45 p.m., with the high jump. Clearing two bars earlier in the day, Stockard cleared four more to hit 5-5 (1.65m), jumping her two spots to 15th in the overall standings. The shot put began at 11:30 p.m. Stockard threw for 37-7? (11.47m) and once again improved two spots to 13th overall. The final event of the day, the 200-meter dash ran at 12:43 a.m., Thursday morning. Stockard ran in a time of 24.70, jumping seven spots to sixth overall.
