COLUMBIA, Mo.-- - Mizzou scored six runs in the eighth inning and one in the ninth to defeat Oklahoma State 10-9 on Saturday at Taylor Stadium to take a 2-0 lead in the series.
Trailing 7-3 in the eighth inning, the Tigers scored six runs in the eighth to take the 9-7 lead. Then after Oklahoma State scored two runs in the top of the ninth, Mizzou won the game on a game-winning RBI-single by sophomore James Boone.
Prior to the game, the eight MU seniors were honored as part of senior day. Then during the game the seniors led Mizzou to the win as four of the honorees hit home runs on Saturday.
With one out in the bottom of the eighth inning, senior Lee Laskowski walked and senior Jeremy Hernandez reached on a single. Freshman John McKee doubled to left center to score Laskowski and Boone followed with a single driving in Hernandez. McKee would score on a base hit by pinch hitter Tyler Williams.
After Williams, senior Kyle Johnson stepped in as a pinch hitter and connected for his first home run of the season, a three-run shot to right to give Mizzou the 9-7 lead.
The Cowboys retook the lead as Josh Fields hit a two-run homer with one out in the top of the ninth.
But the Tigers answered right back, loading the bases with no outs in the bottom of the ninth. Boone then sent his second hit of the day over the head of the OSU rightfielder, driving in senior Cody Ehlers, who had singled to lead off the inning, for the winning run.
Ehlers gave Mizzou the early lead with a solo home run on the first pitch he saw in the first inning. The homer is his 15th of the year and the 34th of his career, placing him in fifth all-time in home runs at Mizzou and he needs just one more to move into a tie for fourth.
Laskowski and Hernandez teamed up for home runs on back-to-back pitches in the sixth inning for their eighth and second home runs of the season respectively.
