Columbia, Mo.- The Tigers came out strong with a 5-2 win against Texas Tech today. Close losses last week motivated the Tigers to play tough and get a win. The team took three days off during the week to recover from injuries that had been plaguing them.
Well-rested doubles teams won all three doubles matches to get the point. Urska Juric and Katka Sevcikova took out Texas Tech's Tereschenko and Brooks 8-3. Freshmen Yelena Olshanskaya and Erika Josbena gave the Tigers a big win over Texas Tech's Kovacic and Browning 8-2. Hana Kraftova and Mary Barry wrapped up the doubles sweep with an 8-5 win over Texas Tech's Wagley and Gocheva.
A big three-set singles win by Juric over Texas Tech's Irina Tereschenko set the tone for the rest of the match. Sevcikova, Kraftova, and Josbena beat out the Red Raiders in singles to clinch the win for the Tigers. Olshanskaya couldn't come up with a win in the #5 position and Mary Barry retired from her match at #5 due to back problems.
The Tigers face #35 Baylor tomorrow at noon at the Green Tennis Center.
