Columbia, Mo. -
Two key contributors to the Big 12's best defense were named 1st-Team All-Big 12 today by the league media, in Mizzou senior linebacker James Kinney (Kankakee, Ill.) and junior defensive tackle C.J. Mosley (Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo.), as announced today by the Associated Press.
Six other standouts earned accolades, including second-teamer Jason Simpson (Jr., S - The Woodlands, Texas) and honorable-mention selections Sean Coffey (Jr., WR - East Cleveland, Ohio), Atiyyah Ellison (Sr., DT - St. Louis, Mo.), Tony Palmer (Jr., OG - Midwest City, Okla.), Shirdonya Mitchell (Sr., DB - Arlington, Texas), and Brian Smith (So., DE - Denton, Texas).
Kinney was the leading tackler on MU's defensive unit which led the Big 12 in total defense in 2004, as he ended the season with 112 total stops. He ended his career as MU's alltime leading tackler, with 434 stops, breaking the old mark held by former standout DeMontie Cross (415 from 1994-96).
Mosley was a thorn in the side of opposing offenses all season long, as the junior emerged as one of the top linemen in the nation. He registered 61 tackles on the season, and was second on the squad in both tackles for loss (14 for 61 yards) and quarterback sacks (6 ½ for 37 yards). Mosley also led the squad in quarterback hurries (12), recovered fumbles (2) and blocked kicks (1).
