Mizzou Receives Academic Recognition

Columbia, Mo.--Rounding out the season as award recipients, seven Mizzou Tiger soccer payers have been named to the Academic All-Big First Team honoring athletes that play 60 percent of a team's matches during the season while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or above.

Recipients this season include Karen Bauer, Lauren Grice, Kristen Heil, Aria Hudetz, Meggie Malm, Lacy Moore and Erica Pusch.

Karen Bauer
Starting 17-of-18 games played this season, Bauer tied to lead the team dishing out six assists, including five from cornerkicks to set the Missouri career cornerkick assist record with 12. Scoring two penalty kick goals, she also set the Mizzou career PK record with a perfect 6-for-6 tally. She was honored as the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week following her performance against Alabama A&M after scoring a goal and an assist to help the Tigers best the Bulldogs 5-2.

Making history last season, Bauer became Mizzou's first Academic All-District and Academic All-America soccer player. She adds her newest all-district award to a slew of honors including three first team academic All-Big 12 selections and four Total Person Program Academic Achievement Awards earning the soccer team's highest grade point average.

Lauren Grice
Grice ranks 13th on the team scoring one point from one assist helping Ashley Gibbs score against Oklahoma State. Highlighting on the defensive line, she started 19 of Mizzou's 20 games this season in the back field. This is her first academic All-Big 12 honor.

Kristen Heil
Scoring in three consecutive games Heil tied to rank second on the team owning 10 points from two goals and six assists. She scored a goal and an assist against Texas Tech, aided the Tigers with two assists against Baylor and scored a goal and two assists to help Mizzou best Alabama A&M to lead the team with three multi-scoring games this season. Heil dished out her first assist of the year helping the Tigers best Loyola-Chicago. This is Heil's third academic All-Big 12 honor. She was named to the second team as a sophomore in 2002 and to the first team last season as a junior.

Aria Hudetz
Hudetz scored a goal and two assists helping the Tigers defeat Texas Tech. She is one of just four Tigers to record a multiple-assist game during the 2004 season. Hudetz scored her first goal putting the Tigers' on the board against Loyola-Chicago. She tied for sixth on the team in scoring with two goals and two assists for six points. The award marks the first academic All-Big 12 honor for the sophomore.

Meggie Malm
Starting 8 of her 18 games played this season, Malm highlighted on the Mizzou defensive line as a sophomore this season. Earning first team honors, the feat marks her first academic All-Big 12 recognition.

Lacy Moore
Highlighting as one of two Tigers to start all 20 games for Mizzou, Moore scored the Tigers' game-winning goal against Loyola-Chicago. Helping Aria Hudetz score against Texas Tech, Moore dished her first assist of the season bringing her season point total to three. She is tied for ninth on the team in scoring. Aiding the Tigers defensively against #9 Kansas, Moore made her first season team save. Earning first team honors, the feat marks the senior's first academic All-Big 12 recognition.

Erica Pusch
Starting each of the Tigers' 20 games in the backfield, Pusch tallied three points against Oklahoma scoring the game-tying assist and the game-winning goal. Dishing an assist to aide Nobis score against #9 Kansas, the defender tied for ninth on the team owning four points. Earning a first team accolade, Pusch picks up her second consecutive academic All-Big 12 honor.
