Columbia, Mo. - The University of Missouri Women's Golf squad battled windy conditions and narrow fairways on Sunday and is in fifth place at the Lady Razorback Invitational after the opening round. Mizzou is in search of its fourth top-five finish in as many tournaments played this fall after shooting a 309 on the opening day, just six shots out of second place.

Leading the Tiger charge on the day, once again, was Moberly, Mo., native Denise Knaebel. The talented junior fired a two-over par 74 on the opening day and is in a tie for fifth, just four strokes off of Lisa Meshke's (Iowa State) 70 in the opening day. Joining Knaebel in the top 20 is senior Maria Ohlsson, who fired a 77 on the day and is in a tie for 18th. Tiger freshman Madde Augustsson got off to a strong start in the tournament, firing an opening-round 78 and is in a tie for 26th. Senior Mindy Bullard and junior Kelli Strubinger registered rounds of 80 and are in a tie for 51st, but are just three strokes out of the top 20 heading into Monday's second round.

"We battled the wind all day today and our accuracy was tested throughout the entire round," Head Coach Stephanie Cooper said. "We need to focus on the task at hand tomorrow and be prepared for similar conditions tomorrow."

The Invitational is being played at the par-72, 6,015-yard Pinnacle Country Club in Rogers, Arkansas. The Tigers will tee it up for the second round on Monday starting at 9:20 a.m. For results and a recap of all of the action, log on to www.mutigers.com late tomorrow afternoon.
