Missouri Swimming and Diving Teams Fall to Texas A&M

Lawrence, Kan. - The University of Missouri men's and women's swimming and diving teams lost to Texas A&M in Lawrence, Kan. Today. The men fell by a score of 170-130, while the women were defeated 190-101.

Several underclassmen stepped up for the men's team against A&M. In the 500-yard freestyle, freshman Brandon Lee finished first followed by fellow freshman Travis Floyd in second. In the 1,000-yard freestyle, Lee again placed first and was followed by sophomore Peter Willet in second.

"It's great to see our freshman step up in their first dual meet and be so successful. I was very happy with our performance today, but I'm always disappointed in a loss," said Head Coach Brian Hoffer.

In the 200-yard breaststroke, senior Matt North finished first with the time of 2:05.47. North's time was nearly three seconds ahead of Texas A&M's four-time All-American, Alfredo Jacobo, in second place.

In the diving well, junior Evan Watters hit the board during 3-meter competition yet came back in the 1-meter competition to take first place. Watters score on 1-meter set a new Texas A&M pool record.

On the women's side, senior Mariona Costa placed second in the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke events. Senior co-captain, Becca Dawson, placed second in the 200-yard butterfly, and fellow senior co-captain, Lindsay Palbykin finished second in the 50-yard freestyle.

Missouri managed finish 1-2-3 in the 200-yard individual medley. Senior Megan Morford led the charge for the Tigers as she finished first, followed by sophomore Amy Charley in second and Dawson in third.

On the diving boards, junior Nicole Frazier beat out 2004 Big 12 Champion Alida DiPlacido on the 3-meter board.
