Sept. 30, 2004
Columbia, MO -
The Swimming and Diving team will be divided into two teams for this competition - Black and Gold - and will race against each other. The meet itself is a chance for the freshmen to experience a college race, and a chance to see how teammates match up against each other in a race situation.
In addition, this meet will introduce the fans to the changes that have taken place since the end of last season on the MU Swimming and Diving team. While head coach Brian Hoffer and Diving Coach Greg Triefenbach remain, the rest of the coaching staff is new. You may recognize the faces though. Assistant Coaches Chrissy Frieh and Chris Peters both swam for Mizzou. Frieh graduated in 2004, while Peters graduated in 1998.
Coaching staff aside, many more changes have taken place. While the mean's and women's teams have lost 6 and 7 letterwinners, respectively, combined they have gained 22 newcomers. Included in this class are Chris McCrary (senior transfer from the University of South Carolina) and Jill Bastien (freshman from Parkway Central in St.Louis). Both athletes qualified for the 2004 U.S. Olympic Trials. The new swimmers hope to add depth, versatility, and talent to an already talented team.
The schedule of events, beginning at 5:00pm, is as follows: 200 Medley Relay (w/m), 500 Freestyle (w/m), 200 Freestyle (w/m), 50 Freestyle (w/m), 1-m Diving (w/m), 200 Individual Medley (w/m), 100 Butterfly (w/m), 100 Freestyle (w/m), 100 Backstroke (w/m), 3-m Diving (w/m), 100 Breaststroke (w/m), 400 Freestyle Relay (w/m).
In each event, the women will compete first, followed by the men. Swimming will be suspended during the diving competitions. Admission to the meet is free, but limited.
