Columbia, Mo. - The University of Missouri football squad continued its pre-season camp Saturday with two workouts, marking the first day of two-a-days this fall. The morning workout was held at Memorial Stadium, and was conducted in full pads. The afternoon workout moved over to the grass practice fields behind the Tom Taylor complex, and took place in shoulder pads and shorts. It was a productive day for the Tigers, here were a few highlights from the morning practice... Sophomore QB Brandon Coleman continued his solid play by completing a 50-yard TD pass to streaking wideout Greg Bracey... Freshman QB Mack Breed connected with fellow rookie wideout Jerrill Humphrey on a nice 40-yard gain over the middle... Junior QB Brad Smith had two nice TD passes in situational scrimmaging, with one going to senior WR Thomson Omboga for about 20 yards, and the other going to freshman receiver Jason Ray from 10 yards out... Defensive highlights were turned in by freshman cornerback Alex Woodley, who made a nice break on a ball for the second straight day that turned into an interception... Junior safety Jason Simpson had a similar play later in practice, when he jumped a route in the flat and grabbed a pass that he would have returned for a TD had the play been allowed to continue... Other defensive highlights included a sack from senior lineman Zach Ville, and a diving interception by freshman defensive back Domonique Johnson... In other news and notes, the Tigers were ranked 18th in the Associated Press Pre-Season Top-25 poll, which was released this afternoon. It is the first time since 1980 that Mizzou has been ranked in the pre-season by the AP. MU was 17th that year, and was 12th to start the 1979 campaign. Junior wideout Sean Coffey missed practice today due to a shoulder he injured in Friday's practice. The injury isn't considered serious, but he will be out for an unknown period of time. Head Coach Gary Pinkel also missed some practice time Saturday afternoon, but it was for good reasons, as he left the second practice about an hour early to catch a flight to Toledo so that he could visit his new granddaughter (Madison Aileen Hendershott) for the first time. He is scheduled to return late Saturday evening and will be back on the practice field Sunday. Practice continues Sunday morning, and will be followed by the 2nd annual Fan Day, which is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Faurot Field. Fans are invited to come out and meet the Tigers, who will be signing autographs on the field until roughly 5:30 p.m.
