Eight Tigers Named to All-Big 12 Baseball Teams

May 31, 2004

Two Mizzou baseball players have been named to the All-Big 12 Baseball Team and a total of eight were recognized by the conference, as announced on Monday by the Big 12 office. Senior Lee Laskowski and junior Garrett Broshuis were each first team selections. Senior Ryan Rallo earned second team honors, while senior Cody Ehlers, senior Danny Hill, sophomore James Boone, senior Mark Alexander and freshman Nathan Culp were all named Honorable Mention.

This marks the first time that Missouri has had two first team All-Conference players since 1998, when it had three (Ryan Fry, Chris George and Justin Stine).

Laskowski was an honorable mention selection as a sophomore in 2002. He finished the regular season with a .381 average in Big 12 games, which was third best in the conference.

This marks the first all-conference recognition for Broshuis. He is 10-0 on the year, becoming the first MU pitcher to record 10 wins since Tom Heckman did it in 1981. One more victory for Broshuis would tie the school record for wins in a season.

Ehlers receives All-Big 12 Honorable Mention for the third consecutive season, while Rallo has been named to the team for the second straight year. Ehlers was named the Big 12 Conference Tournament Most Outstanding Player after he hit .385 with two home runs (including a grand slam) in the four games of the tournament. Rallo is second on the team with a career-high nine home runs for the season.

Alexander, Boone, Hill and Culp have earned their first Big 12 recognition.

Alexander has set a new school record for appearances in a season with 34 and his 10 saves on the season is second most in MU history.

Boone was named to the Big 12 Tournament All-Tournament team after was 4-for-6 with five RBI in the championship game.

Hill leads Mizzou with 89 strikeouts on the season and is coming off a complete game victory over Baylor in his last start on Friday at the Big 12 Tournament.

Culp moved into the Tigers' weekend rotation this season as a freshman and has a record of 4-3.

Mizzou received an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament on Monday and will take on Wichita State at 2 p.m. on Friday in Fayetteville, Ark.
