LINCOLN, Neb. - The University of Missouri track and field team finished up competition at the Nebraska Quadrangular late Saturday night. Senior Janae Strickland reset her own school record in the women's shot put at the meet held in Lincoln, Neb., with Nebraska, Colorado State, and Indiana, as Missouri's opposition in the non-scored meet. Also at the meet, junior Lindsay Markworth qualified for the NCAA Regional Championships in her second event, the discus, and Sonya Yamnitz took the title in the women's steeplechase along with the women's 1600-meter relay team taking an event championship.
Strickland (Houston, Texas) thrived in the warm, humid conditions setting the new school record in the shot put with a throw of 54 feet, 2 inches (16.51m). The toss topped her season best by a foot-and-a-half and her previous personal best by four inches. Strickland's throw also would place her in the top ten in the country against the marks that entered the weekend. Breaking the record on her third throw of the event, Strickland had to do so in near darkness. As the meet turned late, the women's shot put was one of the events that had to be contested under very limited lighting.
Under the same lighting, the women's 1600-meter relay team of Whittney Stuart, Jessica Stockard, Ashley Patten, and Laura Brandt, took the event title in the relay event, winning with a time of 3:45.08. Also winning at the meet was senior Sonya Yamnitz. She won the women's steeplechase with a time of 11:35.93.
The women's 400-meter relay team of Whittney Stuart, Jessica Stockard, Laura Brandt, and Comfort Ibe earned the school's fourth best time in history with a time of 46.62.
Junior Lindsay Markworth (Lexington, Mo.) hit a personal-best and an NCAA regional qualifying mark in the discus with a toss of 154-9 (47.18m) taking sixth place. Markworth has already qualified in the shot put throw with a mark earlier this season. Sixteen Tigers in 18 events have qualified for the NCAA Regional Championships to be held in Baton Rouge, La., May 29-30.
Junior Ann Snider set a new personal-best in the hammer throw, not once, but four times. Her final mark of 179 feet, 2 inches (54.62m) topped her old PR by four feet.
Other personal best achieved include Liz Young (12-1?) and Christina Gilpin in the women's pole vault, Jessica Stockard in the shot put, Laura Brandt in the 400, Kate Greer in the 1500, Erin Moses in the 400-meter hurdles, Adam Noteis in the discus, Jason Jones in the 200, and Matt Noonan in the 1500.
