Men's Golf in 14th After First Day of Louisiana Classics

LAFAYETTE, La. - Senior Michael Radek (Chicago, Ill. / St. Ignatius HS) leads Mizzou's men's golf contingent after the first day of competition at the Louisiana Classics in Lafayette, La.

Radek is tied for 27th place after closing with a 2-under-par 70 in the afternoon round. He opened with a team-best 78 as the Tigers struggled in the morning round. He is just four strokes in a closely-grouped upper half of the field from being among the top five golfers.

As a team, Missouri is in 14th place out of 15 teams after two rounds of play at Oakbourne Country Club. The Tigers, who shot rounds of 315 and 304, are 45 strokes behind SMU, who tallied an aggregate first-day total of 2-under 574. MU is 16 strokes behind 13th-place Rice.

Among the rest of the MU scorers, freshman Trent Twaddle (Maryville, Mo. / Maryville HS) is tied for 66th after rounds of 79 and 76; sophomore Ben Scott (Lancashire, U.K.) fired a 78 and 79 to stand in a tie for 70th; freshman John Kelly (St. Louis, Mo. / Christian Brothers College HS) carded loops of 80 and 79 and is tied for 74th place; and senior David Jenkins (Springfield, Mo. / Glendale HS / SMS) shot rounds of 82 and 81 and is in a tie for 78th.

Redshirt freshman Michael Unger (Edmond, Okla. / Edmond North HS), playing in his first collegiate tournament, is competing as a non-scoring individual and is in 81st position following rounds of 83 and 84.

Kansas' Andrew Price is the first-day clubhouse leader after firing a 4-under 68 following a morning 72. His 4-under 140 is two strokes better than Scott Abbott from SMU.

The 18-hole final round will be played Tuesday.
