Surging Tiger Women's Golf Team Travels to Indiana Invitational

The University of Missouri women's golf squad wraps up the regular season this weekend when it travels to the Indiana Invitational. The Tigers have had an unbelievable season to this point, finishing in the Top 3 in six of their eight tournaments of the year. Mizzou has been red hot during the past two tournaments with a tie for 1st place at the Texas A&M Mo-Morial and a 2nd place finish at the Baylor-Tapatio Springs Shootout. Sophomore Denise Knaebel and junior Maria Ohlsson have led the Tigers charge throughout the regular season. They currently rank 2nd and 3rd respectively, in the Big 12 in stroke average with marks of 74.2 and 74.5, putting them directly in the hunt for Big 12 Player of the Year honors. Stay tuned.

Notes of Note Mizzou finished second last year at the Indiana Invitational, firing a 928 and finishing behind Purdue ... then a sophomore, Maria Ohlsson was the Tigers top finisher with a score of 227 ... her sister, former Tiger Elin Ohlsson, also registered a Top 10 finish, finishing in a tie for 6th place with a total of 229 ... sophomore Denise Knaebel leads the Tigers with a stroke average of 74.2 per 18 holes and a 222.5 per 54 holes average ... the Tigers have saved the best for last, averaging a score of 299.3 strokes in the final round of tournaments ... junior Maria Ohlsson has fired scores of par or better in two of her last four rounds ... sophomore Denise Knaebel has not finished worse than 20th this season ... junior Mindy Bullard has improved in each of the Tigers' last four tournaments, going from 67th at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic, to 31st at the Texas A&M Mo-Morial, to finishing in a tie for 12th at the Baylor-Tapatio Springs Shootout with a total of 231 ... this weekend's trip will be a homecoming of sorts for two Tigers ... Head coach Stephanie Cooper and sophomore Stephanie Turner are both from the state of Indiana as Cooper hails from Seymour, Ind., and Turner is from Martinsville, Ind. ... the Tigers do not have a senior on the squad.

Head Coach Stephanie Cooper

Former Tiger Stephanie Cooper is in her third year as head coach of the Tigers. She has led the Tigers back into the national spotlight as the Tigers continue their quest for their second straight NCAA Regional Qualification. Mizzou has registered 17 Top 3 finishes during Cooper's first three years at the helm, including its first tourney championship under her tutelage at the Illinois State Redbird Classic last September. After leading Mizzou to a runner-up finish at the 2003 Big 12 Championship, (losing by only one stroke to Oklahoma State) Cooper has a young and hungry squad ready to make a run at the Big 12 Championships later in April.

The Details

The Indiana Invitational will be played on the Indiana University Golf Course, which will be setup at 6,034 yards and a par of 74. The first and second rounds will begin on Sat., Apr. 3, with a shotgun start beginning at 7:00 pm CST. On Sun., Apr. 4, the final round will commence at 8:30 pm CST. The playing format for the Indiana Invitational will be to play six players and count the four lowest scores.
