Day 3: Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championships

Austin, Texas - After three days of competition, the Missouri women's team is in sixth place with a score of 225.50 and the men are in third place with 395 points.

Highlighting the women's events sophomore Liz Schoborg started the morning prelims off by breaking the MU school record in the 100-yard butterfly, a record she set as a freshman. In the evening finals of the 100 butterfly, Schoborg re-broke the school record with her time of 55.02 and finished fifth overall. Schoborg's time is a provisional qualifying mark for the NCAA Championships and is also a personal best.

In the 100-yard breaststroke, junior Mariona Costa led the Tigers as she finished in seventh place with the time of 1:04.53.

Highlights for the men came as sophomore diver Evan Watters placed second in the 3-meter diving competition missing first place by two and a half points. Sophomore Aaron Wionzek added a seventh place finish on the 3-meter board for MU.

In the 400-yard individual medley, RS-freshman Peter Willet placed fifth followed by sophomore David Darmitzel and senior Dustin McKnight in sixth and seventh places respectively. Willet's time is currently fourth in the MU all-time top-five times.

In the 100-yard butterfly, senior Tyler Belanger placed eighth with the time of 49.58, a personal best.

Sophomore Jason Lyons has been having an outstanding meet as he set another personal best. Lyons placed fifth in the 200-yard freestyle with the time of 1:39.38. Lyons' time puts him fifth in MU's all-time top-five.

In the men's 100-yard breaststroke junior Matt North tied his personal best time of 55.38, an NCAA Championships provisional qualifying time. Senior Chris Musfeldt's time of 56.09 is a personal best and ranks him fifth in Missouri's top-five times. North placed fifth and Musfeldt placed seventh in the 100 breaststroke finals.

In the last individual event of the evening sophomore Chris Lukas placed eighth in the 100-yard backstroke with the time of 50.70.

In the relays events, the women's 400-yard medley relay team of Sarah Lo, Mariona Costa, Liz Schoborg and Andrea Nigh placed fourth with the time of 3:47.29. Their time is currently third in the MU top-five times.

With one day of racing left, Missouri Head Coach Brian Hoffer is very proud of the men's teams performance.
