Some Rest, Some Look to Shine
For a few Tigers, this weekend marks a good time to take a break and rest for the upcoming championship season, beginning next week with the Big 12 Championships. On the other hand, some Tigers will be looking to expand upon NCAA qualifying marks or to achieve new one's this weekend.

Woolsey Feels At Home In Hearnes Junior transfer Conrad Woolsey (Excelsior Springs, Mo.) is looking for a personal-best and a better spot on the NCAA Championship provisional qualifying list in the men's shot put.

"I tend to perform better here in the fieldhouse," said Woolsey. "This is where I train every day and it's where I've hit my personal-best before."

Woolsey's best on the season of 60 feet, 3? inches (18.38m) came four weeks ago at the MU-KU-KSU Triangular, setting a provisional qualifying mark that ranks 18th in the nation.

Woolsey added. "I know only about 15 or 16 get into the event at the NCAA's. I just want to make sure I'm a part of it."

Distance Medley Relay Ranked No. 11 in NCAA
Last weekend, at the Iowa State Classic, the distance medley relay team of Jill Petersen, Jessica Stockard, Ashley Patten, and Amanda Bales hit an NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the event with a time of 11:18.24. The team ranks number 11 in the NCAA ranks; Tennessee's women are number one. The winning time also makes the team the second-fastest in school history. The school-record holding team of Kerry Hills, Sunny Gilbert, Ashley Wysong, and Ann Marie Brooks won an NCAA Championship in the 2001 indoor season.

Bales Gaines Third NCAA Provisional Qualifying Mark
Junior Amanda Bales (Bettendorf, Iowa) earned her third NCAA provisional qualifying mark last weekend in Iowa State with a time of 9:30.38 in the 3000-meter run. Bales has also provisional qualified in the mile run with a time of 4:45.00 and as part of the distance medley relay team.

Look Ahead To Big 12s
Next for the Missouri track and field squad is the 2004 Indoor Big 12 Championships in Lincoln, Neb. Only 26 males and 26 females may be entered in the championships. Action will begin at 9:30 a.m. on both Friday and Saturday with the combined events. For more information, visit our website, mutigers.com.
