NOTE: Missouri head women's basketball coach Cindy Stein is serving as an assistant coach for Team USA at the World University Games in Daegu, South Korea. Here is a journal entry upon the team's arrival:
Excitement! After a long Saturday of travel and arriving in Daegu at 10:30 p.m. Sunday, everyone is anxious to get rolling. We found ourselves in an apartment with four bedrooms, two bathrooms and eight people. We are definitely getting some bonding in. We are also getting accustomed to taking showers without shower curtains and having to hold the showerhead with a free hand. It makes shaving your legs a true challenge. (We thought the games would be tough!)
After our team briefing by the USOC, we found out the one towel they gave us needs to last the two weeks we are here. Conveniently, we have a Laundromat around the corner, there just aren't any dryers! (Better get that laundry done early so it can dry!)
We also had a chance to hit the internet caf?, which everyone attacked with a fervor. A highlight of the day was discovering a Starbucks in the village. The only disappointment was that it didn't open until 9 a.m. Typically, I am pretty caffeine-loaded by then.
As odd as things seem at times, we are all fully appreciative of this opportunity. This trip will give us stories that will last a lifetime. The players are great to be around and even classier than I could ever imagine. The South Koreans have to be the friendliest group of people that you'd ever meet. Life on the road has been GOOD!
