Missouri

Missouri is making its first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 1996. The last time that the Tigers won an NCAA Tournament game was in 1991 when they defeated Jacksonville and Furman at the NCAA East Regional.

Senior center fielder Jayce Tingler's lead-off walk in the first inning gave him 165 for his career, a school record. Tingler also scored his school-record tying 223rd run in the first inning when he scored on a single by Ryan Rallo.

Missouri starting pitcher Justin James has pitched nine innings in his last three appearances. He had not previously pitched a complete game this season.

Missouri pitcher Andy Shipman suffered his first loss as a reliever this season. He was 8-0 out of the bullpen coming into Friday's game.

The Tigers are 1-2 in extra-inning games this season, with the two losses coming in their last three games.

Ian Kinsler's 6th home run of the season was the first homer by a Tiger other than Cody Ehlers since May 4. Kinsler hit two homers on May 4.

North Carolina

With the win against Missouri, North Carolina head coach Mike Fox reached 40 wins for the fourth time in his five seasons with the Tar Heels. Fox is now 7-6 in NCAA Tournament play with his alma mater.

North Carolina is now 3-4 in extra-inning games this season, and Friday's game marked the fifth time in the last seven games that the team has gone into extra-innings.

North Carolina now moves to 2-0 all-time against Missouri, with the only other meeting between the two teams coming in 1989 (UNC, 2-0).

Mike Daniel's game-tying pinch hit home run in the eighth was his second of the season and his first since February 23.

With his lead-off double in the bottom of the 11th, UNC's Sammy Hewitt broke an 0-for-12 slump. Hewitt then came home to score the winning run on a single to center field by Ryan Blake.
