WACO, Texas.-- - The Missouri and Baylor softball team each put runs on the scoreboard in the first inning, but couldn't manage any more the rest of the afternoon, as Mizzou defeated the Bears 4-1 in Waco, Texas on Saturday. The Tigers completed the two-game sweep of BU to move to 28-15 on the year and 9-4 in the Big 12 Conference.
For the second straight day, MU scored in its first at-bat, putting four runs on the scoreboard in the top of the first inning. The Tigers got three consecutive singles from Sara Vassmer, Heather Kunkel and Rachael McGinnis to load the bases. Jeni Schellert then cleared the bases as she connected for a grand slam over the left field wall, her second home run of the year.
The Bears also put a run on the board in the bottom of the first as Nan Wilkens drove in Kelly Osburn on a two-out single to make the score 4-1.
Erin Kalka pitched her second complete game of the weekend and her 19th of the year as she earned the win to move to 16-9 on the season.
McGinnis and Vassmer each had two hits for MU on the day, while Kunkel, Schellert, Joanne Loethen and Daisy Mettlach also connected for hits.
