COLUMBIA, Mo. - Sophomore right-hander Justin James (Yukon, Okla.) threw seven strong innings, and the Missouri bats were hot again as the Tigers shut out Creighton, 9-0, at Taylor Stadium on Friday. It is the seventh straight win for Mizzou (9-4), which has outscored its opposition by a staggering 91-17 margin during the stretch.
James was masterful in his seven innings, allowing just three hits and a pair of walks while striking out six. He hasn't allowed a run in his last 10 innings, going back to the fourth inning of his previous start last Saturday against Youngstown State to run his season record to 3-2.
The Tigers got on the board in the third, getting a triple from redshirt freshman Tyrone Roberson (St. Louis, Mo.) before junior Lee Laskowski (Clayton, Mo.) sent the first pitch of his at-bat over the wall in left field between the scoreboard and the Mizzou bullpen.
Mizzou extended the lead to 6-0 in the fourth on a James Boone two-run double down the left-field line. Junior Ryan Rallo (Chesterfield, Mo.) led the inning off with an infield single and junior Jeremy Hernandez (Aptos, Calif.) followed with a walk before Boone's third double of the year.
Senior OF Jayce Tingler (Smithville, Mo.) added a two-run single in the sixth to boost his team-leading RBI total to 18.
Freshman Nick Admire (Lebanon, Mo.) struck out the side in the eighth inning, and finished his two-inning relief stint by allowing just one hit.
Tom Oldham took the loss for the Bluejays (1-8), who have lost six straight after their lone win of the season against UCLA.
"Our pitchers gave us a chance to settle in tonight," Head Coach Tim Jamieson said. "Our hitters did a good job against a good pitcher. With guys like that, you're not going to get to him the first time through the lineup. Our pitchers are throwing strikes. We're making them string together hits to get to us, and we have so many guys that are thowing well right now."
The Tigers will conclude the weekend series with Creighton with a 2 p.m. doubleheader at Taylor Stadium. Please note that the weekend schedule has been altered to accommodate potential adverse weather conditions on Sunday. Sunday's scheduled game with Creighton has been moved to Saturday afternoon and made as part of a doubleheader with the normally scheduled Saturday game that will conclude the series.
