Statements Regarding the University of Missouri Basketball Program

Dec. 10, 2003

Coach Quin Snyder's Statement Regarding the Release of the Tapes from the Boone County Jail

"As tough as it is for me personally not to respond, and for my coaches not to respond, I cannot discuss these allegations. As I have said all along, I respect the the process of the investigation and until the University and the NCAA reach the conclusion of this process, I will not comment on individual allegations or stories."

Mike Alden's Statement Regarding the Release of the Tapes from the Boone County Jail

"The release of recordings of Ricky Clemons' conversations from the Boone County jail is a development that has been anticipated since early in the course of the current review of the men's basketball program. The contents of the conversations represent only a small part of the comprehensive review that is taking place. The University and the NCAA have already conducted a series of in-depth interviews with a wide range of individuals.

Our basketball program has fully cooperated with the investigation and respects the due diligence that has taken place. I am confident in Coach Snyder's management of the Mizzou Basketball program and I believe that he will address any problem-areas that have been identified through this review process. We know that historically, the University and this state have been proud of our athletic program and we are confident that at the end of this review, that the pride will continue.

As we have continually conveyed, the University is committed to cooperating with the NCAA throughout the remainder of the review process and therefore, we will continue to uphold the confidentiality of the review process and will not respond to specific allegations before the investigation is complete."

Statement from Arthur Johnson

Similar to what coach said in his statement yesterday (Tuesday), as much as I would like to respond to these allegations and stories, I can't due to the NCAA investigation. These allegations are not new but we respect the process and cannot comment on it until it is completed. All I can say is that we have not ever received any impermissible benefits, including cash, from any of our coaches.

Statement from Rickey Paulding

These allegations are not new. Like coach said yesterday (Tuesday) in his statement, as much as I would like to respond to these allegations and stories, I can't due to the NCAA investigation. We respect that process and cannot comment on it until it is completed. All I can say is that we have not ever received any impermissible benefits, including cash, from any of our coaches.
