Columbia, Mo- The #23 Missouri women's swimming and diving team hosts Big 12 conference foe Nebraska in a conference showdown on Friday. Missouri enters the meet at 3-2 on the season and 1-1 in conference competition.
Nebraska is currently 2-0 and 0-0 in Big 12 competition. Missouri is currently second in the Big 12 standings behind Texas A&M at 2-0 in conference competition.
Missouri enters the meet coming off a very tiring weekend October 31-November 1. On Oct. 31, Missouri hosted the Truman State Bulldogs. Against Truman, the Missouri women defeated the Bulldogs 126-78. Highlights of the meet included Kim Gainey's first collegeiate win as she won the 500-yard freestyle. Mariona Costa, Andrea Nigh, Rebecca Wolfe, and Sarah Lo all added first place finishes in their respective events.
The next day, Nov. 1, Missouri faced Border War rival Kansas. The Tigers struggled in the beginning against the Jayhawks, but were able to come back and win the meet by a score of 153-147.
Against KU, freshman Amy Charley recorded the first collegiate victory of her career as she finished first in the 200 Individual Medley.
The Mizzou diving trio of Anna Massey, Kim Massaro and Nicole Frazier stepped up for the Tigers as they claimed the top-three spots on the 3-meter board.'
Nebraska is coming off dominating victories against Southern Illinois (144-91) and Southwest Missouri State (204-91). The Huskers also finished fifth at the Big 12 Relays.
The Huskers return 15 atheletes to this years squad, but 13 of the returnees are sophomores. What the Huskers lack in upper class leadership they make up in underclass skill. This season seven of Nebraska'a top times are held by underclassmen.
The Huskers will be going for their fifth dual meet win in their last six duals on Friday night. Last year NU fell to Missouri, 228-82, in a double-dual with Texas A&M.
