Oct. 31, 2003

WILMINGTON, N.C. - Senior David Jenkins (Springfield, Mo. / Glendale HS / SMS) and sophomore Ben Scott (Lancashire, U.K.) each shot 3-over-par 75 to lead the University of Missouri at the first day of the Landfall Tradition.

The tournament, played at the Country Club of Landfall's Nicklaus course, has 12 men's teams and 13 women's squads in competition on Carolina's coast.

Jenkins shot a 35 on the front nine - the best half of any Tiger on the day - and came home in 40, and Scott started out in 37 and finished with a 38. The pair are tied for 22nd place, nine strokes behind Justin Collins of Ohio State, who fired an opening-round 66.

The rest of the Tiger squad is positioned closely together, as freshman John Kelly (St. Louis, Mo. / Christian Brothers College HS) and sophomore Chris Mabry (Leawood, Kan. / Bishop Miege HS) both fired a 76 on the first day. Senior Michael Radek (Chicago, Ill. / St. Ignatius HS) rounded out Mizzou's day with a 79.

As a team, the Tigers shot a 14-over 302 on the first day, which puts them in ninth place out of the 12 teams. Minnesota fired an aggregate 4-under 284 to take a two-stroke lead over Ohio State and sits 18 strokes ahead of Mizzou.

The second round will be played on Saturday, with an 18-hole final round taking place on Sunday.
