COLUMBIA, Mo. - Three more women's basketball games will be broadcast this season, as officials from Mizzou Sports Properties have awarded television rights to those contests to the Mizzou Sports Network (MSN).
All three games will take place at the Hearnes Center, which will enter its 30th and final year of service as the basketball home of the Tigers before the team moves in to a new $75 million facility next year. The 2003-04 MSN schedule starts on Wednesday, Dec. 10, when Southwest Missouri State comes to Columbia. The Tigers' annual Border War tilt with the Kansas Jayhawks on Saturday, Jan. 10, as well as a visit by Kansas State - expected to be listed among the nation's top five teams when the preseason polls are released - on Sunday, Feb. 22, round out the schedule.
The 2003-04 broadcast slate currently features seven guaranteed regional and national regular-season telecasts, which ties the most ever for the women's basketball program. In addition to the three Mizzou games on the Big 12 Conference package - at Colorado, at Kansas and vs. Iowa State broadcast nationwide on FOX Sports Net - and the just-announced Mizzou Sports Network schedule, the Tigers' Jan. 7 date at Kansas State will be broadcast by FOX Sports Midwest in the state of Kansas and the Kansas City DMA (designated market area) as part of KSU's third-tier package.
Additional broadcast exposures are available on FOX Sports Net should the Tigers reach the quarterfinals and beyond of the Big 12 Conference women's basketball tournament. And for the second straight year, all 63 games of the NCAA Women's Basketball Championship Tournament will be aired by ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPN Pay-Per-View.
The Tigers, led by sixth-year Head Coach Cindy Stein, continue preseason strength and conditioning workouts in preparation for the start of the official practice season next Saturday, Oct. 18.
