Palm Harbor, Fla. - Four University of Missouri women's golfers finished the day in the top 10 as Mizzou took the opening-round lead at the adidas Fall Invitational on Sunday. Mizzou shot a 294 for the opening round on the par 72, 5,844-yard Lansbrook Golf Club layout in Palm Harbor, Fla. They are four strokes ahead of Big 12 foe Baylor (298) and eight strokes up on Nebraska (302) following the opening day.
"We got off to a solid start today and played some really good golf," head coach Stephanie Cooper said. "The key for us tomorrow is too continue to hit fairways and greens while being aggressive."
Sophomore Kelli Strubinger played her finest round of the fall on Sunday shooting an even-par 72 for the day (good for fourth place) including a three-under par 33 on the back nine. Three other Tigers are also in the top ten heading into tomorrow's second round as sophomores Maria Ohlsson and Mindy Bullard, and freshman Stephanie Wavro all shot rounds of 74 and are in a six way tie for sixth place. The round of 74 was Bullard's best round of the fall while Wavro was remarkable in her first round in competition as a Tiger.
Fourteen teams are competing in this year's adidas Fall Invitational, including five teams in the Top 50 of the latest Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index rankings (#30 Missouri, #40 Kansas State, #43 Notre Dame, #46 Nebraska and #47 Baylor).
