Shipman Signs with Red Sox Organization

Former Missouri pitcher Andy Shipman has signed a minor league contract with the Single A Augusta Green Jackets within the Boston Red Sox organization.

Shipman, a right-hander from Bellevue, Neb., had a 9-4 record for the Tigers last season. He appeared in 26 games, which places him in Mizzou's single-season top-10 for appearances.

After opening the season in the starting rotation, Shipman moved to the bullpen for the start of the Big 12 Conference season. He was 8-0 with a 4.10 ERA as a reliever. He went 7-1 against Big 12 Conference opponents in 2002 and had 21 strikeouts in 29.2 innings in Big 12 games.

He threw the final two innings of Missouri's 11-inning win to eliminate Kansas from the Big 12 Tournament. In his first start on March 1, Shipman pitched seven shutout inning and struck out six to get the win over Youngstown State.
