Missouri Gears Up for Tough Competition

Mizzou Splits Weekend

The Mizzou Tiger soccer team splits this weekend playing one home and one road game. The Tigers host Eastern Illinois on Fri., Sept. 19 at 7:00 p.m., at Audrey J. Walton Soccer Stadium.

The following day, Missouri leaves for the Sunshine State to compete against NSCAA/adidas #5 ranked Florida. Mizzou faces the Gators on Sun., Sept. 21 at 12:30 p.m., E.T.

Special Promotions

Missouri soccer is proud to partner with the Central Missouri Food Bank in an effort to combat hunger in Mid-Missouri. The Tigers are hosting a food drive during the Eastern Illinois game. Fans are asked to bring canned or non-perishable food items for donation. Donate two food items and receive admission to the game for just $1.

Scouting Eastern Illinois

The Panthers are 3-2-1 on the year taking victories over Western Illinois (6-0), Bowling Green (4-2) and Loyola-Chicago (3-2).

Beth Liesen leads Eastern Illinois with 13 points on the year after scoring four goals and dishing out five assists. Audra Fredricks is second on the team scoring three goals for six points. In the goalbox, Lindsay Dechert has played in all six of EIU's games to own a 3-2-1 record. She has allowed seven goals and made 42 saves to won a 1.30 goals against average.

Missouri leads the MU-EIU series record 1-0 taking its only victory over the Panthers in a 3-1 win during the 2001 season.

Scouting No. 5 Florida

Coming in ranked fifth in the nation by the NSCAA/adidas poll this week, the Florida Gators are 6-0-0 on the year. In their opening game of the year, the Gators defeated #11 ranked Penn State 2-1.

Florida scoring is lead by Crystal Frimpong, who owns 10 points from four goals and two assists on the year. Assist leader Megan McMillan also bolsters the Gator scoring lineup with four assists and one goal in just six games.

In the backfield, Brittni Goodwin has played 454 minutes making 24 saves and allowing seven goals for a 1.388 goals against average. She is 5-0 on the year owning Florida's only shutout victory of the season against Florida State (2-0).

This is the first meeting between Missouri and Florida.

Eyeing the Tigers

Missouri joins the fray toting a 4-2-0 record, marking just the second time in program history the Tigers have gone undefeated during its season introduction - Mizzou was 4-0 before suffering a loss to Mississippi State last weekend.

Impressively, the Tigers own two shutouts on the year and have out scored their opponents 11-to-5. In addition, Mizzou is out shooting the competition by a margin of nearly two shots to one. The Tigers have also forced the competition to 42 saves on the year, compared to just 26 saves by Mizzou goalkeepers.

Missouri in the Big 12
? Topping the league offensively, Missouri is ranked fourth averaging 16.33 shots per game and fifth with 1.83 assists per outing.
? Missouri is tied for sixth scoring 11 goals and 33 points.
? The Tigers stand out boldly looking at defense, Missouri has allowed just four goals on the year to own a .82 goals against average to rank fourth in the league.
? Mizzou is also ranked fourth with 26 saves to average 4.33 per game.

Weekend Review

Missouri picked up its first losses on the year over the weekend falling to Mississippi State 1-0 and No 25 ranked Mississippi 2-1 in overtime. The Tigers outshot MSU 23-8, including 13 shots on goal, but Australian National goalkeeper Luisa Marzotto, kept the Bulldogs in the game making 13 saves in the match.

Against Mississippi, Mizzou came back from a 1-0 deficit to tie Ole Miss 1-1 and take the Rebels into overtime. The Tigers fell however during the sudden death period.

Taking Note of Nobis
? Jennifer Nobis leads the Tigers with 10 points on the year scoring four goals and two assists.
? She has contributed a goal or assist in five of Mizzou's six games.
? Nobis tops the lineup as one of the most consistent shooters with a .737 shot on goal percentage taking 14 of her 19 shots to the net.
? She also ties to lead Missouri with two game winning goals.
? Earning the spotlight in the Big 12 Conference, Nobis is ranked seventh overall in points and sixth in goals scored and shots. She also ties for third in the league in game winning goals.

Harping on Heil
? Kristen Heil is second on the team with six points from three goals on the season.
? Playing a key role in Missouri's victories over Purdue and Arizona, Heil scored the Tiger's first goal in both matches and ignited Mizzou's offensive onslaught.
? Honored as the Nike Tiger Invitational Most Valuable Player and named to the all-tournament team.
? Earned Big 12 Player of the Week honors (Sept. 8-14).
? Heil is tied for eighth in the Big 12 with three goals and 10th in goals per game.

Swoboda Specs
? Forward Shea Swoboda has quickly proven herself as one of the Tigers' top reserves. Fulfilling her distinctive role as a rejuvenating force, the junior has replenished Missouri's offensive efforts scoring two game-winning goals against Iowa and Purdue.
? She owns four points overall to rank third on the team in scoring.
? In addition to her uplifting energy on the field, Swoboda leads the team in accuracy toting a .833 shot on goal percentage taking eight of her 14 shots to the net.
? She is tied for third in the Big 12 Conference in game-winning goals.

The Gab on Gibbs
? Making the transition from the backfield to the half field, Ashley Gibbs continues to excel as one of Mizzou's most consistent athletes.
? Playing a dual role both offensively and defensively, she has proven her versatility during the Tigers' opening games. After helping the defensive line record its lowest shot ratio in program history last year, she has expanded her role as a valuable playmaker this season.
? Gibbs ties for third on the team in scoring putting in her first goal against Arizona. She also adds two assists to her credits, including the game-winner against the Wildcats.

The Handle on Hudetz
? Freshman Aria Hudetz has burst onto the scene as one of Mizzou's most consistent athletes.
? Earning a starting position in the Tiger midfield, she has played a key role in Missouri's success this season.
? A skilled and intelligent player, Hudetz has trademarked her ability to envision and create scoring plays.
? Establishing herself, she has dished out two assists on the year, including the game-winner against Purdue.

The Swinehart Swagger
? Moving from the forward line to the half field, sophomore Amber Swinehart has been able to effectively incorporate her scoring ingenuity with a powerful defensive presence.
? Proving herself as one of Missouri's most efficient playmakers, she already owns two assists on the year.

The Krawczyk Chatter
? Goalkeeper Stephanie Krawczyk is 2-2 on the year, including a season opening shutout victory against Northwestern.
? In 366 minutes of play, she has allowed just four goals while making 18 saves for a 0.98 goals against average.
? Krawczyk is ranked sixth in the Big 12 in goals against average and is fifth averaging 4.6 saves per game.
? She also ties for sixth in shutout victories.

Dissecting Duncan
? Goalkeeper Megan Duncan is 2-0 on the year, including a season opening shutout victory against Iowa.

? Senior Adriene Davis is back on track gearing to establish a new Mizzou career assist record. After leading the Tigers in single-season assists in both the 2001 and 2002 seasons, Davis is just one assist shy of tying the current Missouri career assist record (29, Nikki Thole). Helping Jennifer Nobis score against Mississippi, Davis posted her 28th career mark.

? Making her way to the backfield, Karen Bauer has quickly established herself as a force to reckoned with on the Mizzou defensive line. Making the transition from her standard role in the midfield, Bauer's experience has been a valuable asset helping the Tigers maintain a .082 opponent scoring percentage (5 goals v. 65 shots).

? Playing beneficial minutes for the Tigers, freshman Lauren Grice has stepped in as one of Mizzou's most reliable reserves. Playing in each of Missouri's six games in the half field, she already owns an assist to her credits helping Kristen Heil score against Northwestern.

? Defender Kim Hibbert continues to serve as one of Missouri's defensive dynamos. Playing all 546 minutes so far this season, she was able to railroad the scoring leaders from Purdue, Courtney Coppage, and Arizona, Candice Wilks. ? Switching from the midfield to the Tiger defensive line, Erica Pusch completes Missouri's backfield trio. Utilizing her speed and physical defensive style, she has effectively shutdown opponent scoring drives. Covering Arizona's Erin Bevaqua, Pusch kept the Wildcat to just one shot during the game.
