The University of Missouri volleyball program recently conducted four summer camps on the MU campus. In total, 934 campers attended the four sessions over a two-week period. Campers came from 10 different states (Missouri, Nebraska, Kansas, Colorado, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky and Iowa) to participate.
The summer camps opened with the team camp, which featured 28 varsity teams and 15 junior varsity teams and included team practices, on-court coaching sessions and team tournament play.
At the specialty camp, 184 campers took part in a camp which focused on advanced skill development by position. The all-skills camp was the largest individual camp with 249 campers and included skill instruction in all facets of the game.
New this summer was the elite camp which was geared towards the college-bound athlete. It was a comprehensive camp that covered techniques, strength and conditioning and nutrition.
Camp staff for the four sessions included MU coaches Susan and Wayne Kreklow and Deng Yang, as well as coaches from several other universities and colleges. Twenty-five courts and more than 1,000 volleyballs were utilized during the camps.
The summer camp program at Mizzou will return next year. Keep an eye on www.mutigers.com for information regarding next summer's Missouri Volleyball Camps.
