Jenkins Wins Missouri Stroke Play Championships

July 28, 2003

Tiger men's golfers continue to have solid summers as they prepare for the 2003 fall campaign. Senior golfer David Jenkins won the sixth annual Missouri Stroke Play Championships last Friday at the West Course at Norwood Hills in St. Louis, Mo. Earlier this summer, Tiger sophomore Chris Mabry won the 79th Kansas City Amateur at the Hillcrest Country Club in Kansas City. Mabry shot a 1-under-par 71 for the final round and finished the tourney with a 2-under-par total of 214 for the three-day tournament.

Jenkins shot a 1-under par 283 for the tournament on the 6,800-yard track. He finished two strokes ahead of Springfield native Wayne Fredrick and five strokes ahead of David Estes of St. Louis, Mo. Jenkins was able to come back after being down one stroke to Antonio Serrano after the opening day of the Championship.

A transfer student-athlete from Southwest Missouri State last year, Jenkins finished last season with five top-25 finishes and a 74.9 stroke average while playing in all 12 Tiger tournaments.
