June 16, 2003

Kansas City, Mo. - While the collegiate golf season ended at the end of May, members of the Missouri men's golf squad have been busy the past couple of weeks.

Mizzou sophomore golfer Chris Mabry won the 79th Kansas City Amateur last Thursday at the Hillcrest Country Club. Mabry shot a 1-under-par 71 for the final round and finished the tourney with a 2-under-par total of 214 for the three-day tournament.

"Chris played very good golf and is capable of putting up low scores at any time," head men's golf coach Tim Robyn said. "His game is really strong and it showed in his play last week."

Mabry had a good freshman year for the Tigers, setting the freshman record for lowest round with a 66. The Leawood, Kan., native who twice won the Kansas Class 5A title, birdied three of his first nine holes to start the final round of the Kansas City Amateur and was the only golfer to finish under par.
