Mizzou senior Ingrid Werner has been named to the Verizon Academic All-District VII Team for the second consecutive year. Werner, a Fremont, Calif. native, is majoring in Health Related Professions at Missouri with a 3.84 grade point average
Werner's name, along with the other first team selections, will appear on the national ballot for the Verizon Academic All-America team.
The district is made up of student-athletes from Division I schools in Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska and Iowa. To be nominated, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve, and carry a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or higher. Team members are selected by a vote of members of the College Sports Information Directors of America within the district.
The last Mizzou softball player to earn multiple all-district selections was Stacey Gemeinhardt, who was named to the team in 1998 and 2000.
Werner was named to the Academic All-Big 12 First Team last week, the third time she has earned that honor. She is a two-time NFPSCA All-American Scholar Athlete and a three-time Academic All-American.
In the Mizzou record books, she ranks ninth in career complete games (37), innings pitched (473.2), strikeouts (246), and shutouts (12) and is 10th in career wins (35). Werner is 6-1 this season, pitching complete games in each of her six starts.
