Familiar Territory, Familiar Foes Await Tiger Men at NCAA Central Regional

The University of Missouri men's golf squad travels to Manhattan, Kan., this week to begin play at the NCAA Central Regional. The Tigers are set to tee of at 7:57 on Thursday morning on the 10th tee of Colbert Hills Golf Course, one of the premier courses in the Midwest.

The Tigers are no stranger to the par-72, 7,525 yard trek, as the they played in the Jim Colbert Intercollegiate earlier this past fall, finishing in fourth place out of 12 teams. Mizzou shot 312 in the first two rounds, and wrapped up the tourney extremely well with a final round 300. Junior Brandon Knaub played the best golf of his season at the Colbert, shooting a closing round of 73 finishing in a tie for 3rd with a 54-hole total of 224.

A large part of the competition at the Central Regional will be familiar as all nine Big 12 schools that qualified for postseason action will be playing in the Central Region.

This marks the second straight year Head Coach Tim Robyn has led the Tigers into NCAA Regional action after a seven year absence prior to last season. In 2002, Mizzou traveled to Little Rock, Ark., where they finished in 20th place.

Let Me Break It Down For You

In order for Mizzou to advance to the NCAA Championships, which will be played at Karsten Creek Golf Course in Stillwater, Okla., on May 27-30, they have to finish in the top 10 of the tourney. The top two individuals who are not a qualifying team will also make the trip to the Sooner state. Be sure to log on to www.mutigers.com for updates of the action.

Definite Possibilities

The Tigers are definitley capable of putting up some low numbers when they are on their game. Three of Mizzou's five starters have recorded top five finishes at one time or another during the spring and the team has finished in the top five in five tournaments throughout the fall and spring seasons.
