Tiger Women's Golf Squad Adds Texas Standout

April 17, 2003

Columbia, Mo. - Baytown, Texas, native Stephanie Wavro will join the University of Missouri Women's Golf squad for the 2003-04 season, head coach Stephanie Cooper announced today.

"Stephanie has put together a tremendous high school and junior golf career," Cooper said. "She is an excellent student and a good athlete and we are extremely excited to have her join our program."

Wavro, who was named the Houston Junior Golf Association Player of the year in 2000 and 2001, has recorded 17 tournament wins in the past three years. She is also currently ranked #1 in her senior class of 527 at Sterling High School. She has earned a 5.6 GPA on a 5.0 scale and was named Houston's 2001 Female Scholar Athlete of the Year.

"I was first interested in Missouri because they have the best journalism school in the country," Wavro said in an interview with the Baytown Sun. "They also have a really strong golf team. They're in the Top 40 in the country. They just had the combination of athletics and academics I was looking for."

The Tigers now host the Big 12 Women's Golf Championship next week in Columbia, Mo. The event is set to begin at 8 a.m. on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at the Country Club of Missouri. For more information on Missouri Tiger Women's Golf, log on to www.mutigers.com.
